Concept Development(150 wordsdescriptive text on re‐invention)
I found the style that McR which is McBride Charles Ryan uses the space of his Architecture strongly open as if there shouldn't be any boundaries between outdoor and indoor. Also the shapes they also uses lots of distinctive, intresting forms, like, sphere, triangular, square/rectangular.
For my envised model, I prentend the client who is the retired old couple, and they would like to experience the Sea Change and get away from the crowded city. My concept from these is that How the building should interactive with surrounding environment such as day/night system, weather and natural environment.Also square/rectangular shape forms rhythm of users movement.
My envation house is located in a new residential area near the beach , as I consider the project of the clients are the old couple, like our grandmother and grandfather. I made the building far from the back, with the surrounding residential area to isolate, which provides a quiet environment.
In this design process I also eliminates the need for complex external façade decoration and landscape design. This simple rectangular building façade or windows open a little in order to reduce construction costs. I try to make the To make the project more simple as the client request but still unusual, The layout of these architects carefully limited windows, so that they can be well combined with the interior layout.

This strategy has unlocked a new series of relationships and sequential spatial experience. It got three level crisscross orderly and start from the foryer, and revolves around a central courtyard, and there is a U type stair connecting all the levels, since it is inspired from klein bottle, then it is a building which is like a endless curling shell. There are also some shortages of Klein bottle house, like the amount of normal materials neccessary, ended up with half the livable space, and the bunch of slanty walls and ceilings make for a very disorientyny experience.For my re-interpretation building, I'll simplify the surface and reduce the angles. The spiral shell circulation will be retained for my final design. |
Initial Concept for the Direction of Assignment2
To envised my model, first thing I’m going to compare the Klein Bottle House with the Dome House, and then I will show the differences and features of those two buildings on my envision house.
First of all, the Klein Bottle House and Dome House are all residential house, so I will envised a residential house model, and I will mainly focus on the circulation function, privacy and publicity of the house, and different materials used for different purpose.
Then, two chosen buildings from designer are analysis further more. The Klein Bottle House is located on heavily ti-treed sand hills adjacent the ocean beach in Rye. Its spiral configuration is a spatial device which responds to the difficult topography. The concept it is used ‘Klein Bottle’ which by passing the spiral back though itself the house. the form/shape of the Klein Bottle House is very complicated, as I pretend my client is a old couple so the appearance of the building is no need to be so unique. I will mainly focus on the function and everything changed will be very fit with the new model. My the other chosen building from the chosen architect is which is the Dome House, the most distinct thing is that it uses different materials to show a totally different feelings of interior and exterior of the building. The exterior looks physical, and natural as it is surrounded by trees and plants, the main materials used are marble, stone, brick and glass. However, the interior presents a different feeling which is made by minimalism design, simple materials and unity color make the whole building looks very modern, and therefore, people will focus on the function or circulation of the house.
To sum up, two chosen building brings me different ideas and inspirations to envies my own house model, I will keep work on my own design and think about those two buildings deeply and to learn something useful for me from the architect.

The Klein Bottle house express the new spatial relationship and configuration, and before building this house, modeling technology plays an significant role to comunicate designer's idea and it also can model much more complex shape, and for this building, it was full orthoganals and has great communicatin of plans, sections and elevations.
This building is located in on heavily ti-treed sand hills and has great viweing place of ocean beach in Rye. Because of the complex topography, it's strategy as a rectilinear patform and makes this house a abstract geometry inhabitable

After revising the space in the settlement of the house, I focusing on colour and the material to the performance of the sense of minimalism modern combine with nostalgia.
Material: wood board, robust metals, marble, muted stones, brick and bright stones.

This is the process of making the model in sketchup by pushing and pulling. The form of addition and subtraction of rectangle.
Designing a project is the analysis of the process rather than a process of the imagination, the site analysis, environmental analysis, cultural analysis and the climate analysis all need to be considered.
I made the building far from the sea to keep away from falling tide and rising tide.
The knowledge of lifestyle and values and the understanding of the design provides a wealth of meaning.
As I consider the factors around the house, I also think about the atmosphere inside the house at the same time, which has a unique understanding and experience though the inside space. A rectangular skylight in the center of entire building, it provides the main natural light to interiors, while soft-day sprinkled on the stairs just off the well for the occupants and guests come to visit the guidance of a directional light.
Exterior House
Fully functioning windows on both sides overlooking the bay create a sense of openness, these windows make the space look wider and stick to minimalist style.

Minimalist interiors give the home a clean, uncluttered and contemporary aesthetic.
